City of Clarksville to hold Public Meeting on 3-lane stretch of Madison Street

Public forum October 18th invites comments about lane direction arrows

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – Have you ever wanted to tell someone at City Hall what you think about the multidirectional middle lane of Madison Street between Pageant Lane and Tenth Street?

You know, the one with traffic that heads west in the morning and east in the afternoon.

Well, here’s your chance!

Clarksville motorists use lane direction arrows to navigate Madison Street between Pageant Lane and 10th Street. In the morning the arrows designate two lanes for westbound travel toward downtown. In the afternoon the arrows change and allow for two lanes of traffic heading east out of downtown.

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and the Clarksville Street Department invite citizens to a public meeting at 6:00pm October 18th at the Clarksville Montgomery County Public Library, 350 Pageant Lane, to review proposed changes to that section of Madison Street.

City decision makers want to hear from motorists about the lane direction arrows currently in operation on the three-lane section of the street.

Recent traffic analysis and a detailed review of crash history have suggested that other configurations might be safer and  improve the flow of traffic.

The October 18th forum is an opportunity for citizens to review and comment as the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Clarksville Street Department consider options to move traffic through the corridor in the safest manner.

“We sincerely want to hear from folks who use that stretch of Madison, and get their reaction to some options our Street Department has proposed,” Mayor McMillan said. “That’s why we scheduled the meeting right in the neighborhood, at the public library in Veterans Plaza.”

Motorists probably have noticed the rough surface in recent weeks along the same stretch of Madison Street. That’s because Clarksville Gas & Water crews have been working on the infrastructure beneath the street in preparation for a major repaving of the roadway by TDOT contractors.

The pending repaving and restriping of the street makes this a good time to consider possible changes to the lane configuration and direction arrows.
