APSU Soccer finishes road schedule at SIU Edwardsville, Eastern Illinois

APSU Soccer - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team enters the final road weekend of the regular season, traveling to SIU Edwardsville 7:00pm, Friday, before visiting Eastern Illinois, Sunday, for a 1:00pm kickoff.

The Governors (8-4-2, 3-0-2 OVC) maintained their unbeaten Ohio Valley Conference record with a win and draw last weekend, knocking off previously undefeated Eastern Kentucky, 1-0, before earning a point, Sunday, in a scoreless draw vs. Tennessee Tech.

APSU matched its best start to a conference season, tying the 2013 squad which also opened five matches without a loss.

APSU Soccer - Lindsey ToddJunior goalkeeper Lindsey Todd continues to impress between the posts, recording back-to-back shutouts last weekend. Todd now holds a 6-0-2 record, and is one of five keepers in the OVC with a goals against average below 1.00 at 0.94.

Redshirt freshman midfielder Pamela Penaloza scored APSU’s lone goal of the weekend, a wonder strike from distance in the 88th minute to defeat Eastern Kentucky. Penaloza followed that performance with a career-high 100 minutes played against the Golden Eagles.

SIUE (6-5-2, 4-1 OVC) currently sits second in the league standings, just above APSU. The Cougars dropped a 1-0 decision at Belmont, September 30th, but rebounded to earned consecutive 2-1 victories at Jacksonville State and Morehead State.

APSU Soccer - Pamela PenalozaAvery Anderson leads the team in points with 13 (five goals, three assists), while the starting keeper is Juli Rossi (1.74 GAA, 44 saves).

Eastern Illinois (4-9, 1-4 OVC) has scored just eight goals this season, which ranks last in the OVC. EIU has dropped three of its last four matches each by 1-0 scores, but managed to defeat UT Martin 1-0 in overtime, September 25th.

Eight different players have scored for EIU in 2016, while goalie Sara Teteak leads the OVC in saves with 83.

Last Time Against Opponents

SIU Edwardsville
A pair of seniors in their final home game combined to defeat the Cougars, 2-0, last season, with Shelby Olszewski and Courtney Sheppard each netting goals in the victory.

Eastern Illinois
The Govs out-shot EIU 19-2 in last year’s contest, with goals from Olszewski, Gina Fabbro and Sophia Fabbro leading to a 3-0 APSU win.

Keep An Eye On

APSU Soccer - Kirstin RobertsonJunior forward Kirstin Robertson eclipsed 2,000 minutes played for her career following last Sunday’s match, and still ranks tied for 14th nationally with 10 goals.

Three Govs have already played over 1,000 minutes in their debut seasons ā€“ Penaloza, Melody Fisher and Renee Semaan.

The match at SIUE will be the first Friday night game played in Edwardsville between the two schools.
