The Governors (8-5-2, 3-1-2 OVC) remain third in the league standings with four games left on the schedule. Meanwhile, SIUE (7-5-2, 5-1 OVC) keeps its second-place ranking.

SIUE scored the game’s lone goal in the 28th minute, a header by Courtney Benning from six yards out after a long cross. Jorie Clawson and Caroline Hoefert picked up assists on the score.

Austin Peay won seven corner kicks in the match, which created chances for senior defender Mary Ruth Locastro who moved forward from her center back position. The Memphis native recorded a team-high four shots, two of which were on goal, but could not find the back of the net. Pamela Penaloza, Nicole Wojcik and Jennifer Smith had APSU’s other three shots for seven overall.

The Govs had success on the flanks, but could not connect passes to the playmaking forwards up top, Kirstin Robertson and Gina Fabbro. SIUE was able to keep possession throughout and limit APSU’s offensive buildup.

Junior Lindsey Todd made three saves but took the loss in goal, her first of 2016 after previously going eight matches without a defeat.

Austin Peay closes out its 2016 road schedule 1:00pm, Sunday, traveling to Eastern Illinois to challenge the Panthers.
