Austin Peay junior forward Kirstin Robertson scored her 11th goal of the year Sunday to give the Govs a 1-0 victory over Jacksonville State.

The Governors (10-6-2, 5-2-2 OVC) moved to fourth in the OVC, a position in which they would host an opening round match if the season ended today.

In addition, it’s the first time APSU has reached the 10 win mark since 2013.

Austin Peay won the possession battle throughout the match, limiting the Gamecocks (5-12-1, 2-7-0 OVC) to just one shot in the first half.

APSU Soccer - Kirstin RobertsonThe Govs had nine attempts in the opening 45 minutes, but scored the game’s lone goal at the 51st minute.

After a JSU clearance was deflected, junior forward Kirstin Robertson controlled the ball and fired a low strike into the back of the net. It’s Robertson’s 11th goal of 2016 to give her 27 points, tying Tatiana Ariza for the fourth-highest single-season total.

“Kirstin is a player who has a lot of attention on her,” head coach Kelley Guth said. “Teams aren’t going to give her an inch and she has to work extremely hard to make things happen. I was very happy to see her put one in the back of the net today, because goals are hard to come by. It was a clutch goal and she’s done that for us all season.”

APSU Soccer - Lindsey ToddAustin Peay’s defense was solid all afternoon, limiting JSU to get open looks on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Lindsey Todd picked up her second shutout of the weekend, improving her record to 8-2-2 in 2016.

Senior forward Gina Fabbro led the Govs with four shots, while freshman midfielder Renee Semaan recorded three.

The Governors conclude the regular season 7:00pm, Thursday, hosting unbeaten Murray State at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.
