City of Clarksville to hold public meeting about Northeast Connector tonight

Roadway is needed to relieve congestion in high-density section of Clarksville

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Tonight, Monday, October 24th, 2016 citizens interested in a project to ease traffic congestion in Northeast Clarksville are urged by Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and the Clarksville Street Department to attend a public meeting at Northeast High School at 6:00pm.

The City of Clarksville will host the meeting to discuss the project and the environmental study under way for the proposed Northeast Connector and related improvements.

“Residents should attend to learn about the City’s progress on this much-needed roadway,” Mayor McMillan said. “And, most importantly, the meeting offers the public an opportunity to help set priorities and goals for the project.”

The Northeast Connector is a proposed new roadway from Wilma Rudolph Boulevard to Trenton Road. It would be designed, built and funded by the City of Clarksville. The road’s purpose is to relieve traffic congestion on Trenton Road, Interstate 24 interchanges at Exit 1 and Exit 4, and on Needmore Road and the 101st Airborne Parkway.

Improvements to a stretch of Trenton Road, which is State Route 48, from Kennedy Road to Tiny Town Road are also being studied as part of a comprehensive approach to improving traffic flow in Northeast Clarksville. The city’s environmental study mirrors Tennessee Department of Transportation standards, and will help the state qualify for federal funding for proposed Trenton Road upgrades.

Wilma Rudolph is the main thoroughfare in the most heavily commercialized section of Clarksville, and Trenton Road and Tiny Town Road serve an area with high-density residential development.

During the meeting, project leaders will review progress on the ongoing environmental study, show maps, offer information on sections being considered for the Northeast Connector route and take comments from residents.
