Tennessee Titans (4-4) vs. San Diego Chargers (3-5)

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – This week the Tennessee Titans (4-4) begin the second half of their season with a trip to take on the San Diego Chargers (3-5). Kickoff at Qualcomm Stadium (capacity 70,000) is scheduled for 3:25pm CST/1:25pm PST on Sunday, November 6th.

If the Titans can find a way to win in San Diego, where success has eluded the franchise since 1990, they would own four wins over a five-game span. The last time they could lay claim to such a run was 2010.

A win would also help them gain a half game in the AFC South race with the division-leading Houston Texans.

With a record of 5-3 and a one-game lead in the division, the Texans have a bye this week. The Indianapolis Colts are in third place at 3-5, followed by the 2-5 Jacksonville Jaguars.

This week’s game will be televised regionally on CBS, including Nashville affiliate WTVF NewsChannel 5. Play-by-play announcer Kevin Harlan will call the action alongside analyst
Dan Fouts.

The Titans Radio Network, including Nashville flagship 104.5 The Zone, will carry the game across the Mid-South with the “Voice of the Titans” Mike Keith, analyst Frank Wycheck, gameday host Rhett Bryan and sideline reporter Jonathan Hutton.

Titans Look To Build On Recent Success
Tennessee TitansThe Titans go on the road this week for the first time in nearly a month. They last played the role of visitors on October 9th at the Miami Dolphins, which also was the first of three wins in a four-game span.

Following the 30-17 win versus the Dolphins, they hosted three straight games at Nissan Stadium: a 28-26 win over the Cleveland Browns, a 34-26 loss to the Indianapolis Colts and a 36-22 Thursday night victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

For the first time in 13 years, the Titans have scored at least 26 points in four consecutive games. The last time they did so was Weeks 13-16 of the 2003 season.

Against the Jaguars, Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota completed 18 of 22 passes for 270 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He had 219 passing yards in the first half alone and exited the game early in the fourth quarter with the Titans holding a comfortable lead.

His 148.1 passer rating was the second-highest number of his career, and his 81.8 completion percentage set a career high and ranked sixth in team annals among qualifiers (20 or more attempts in a game).

Mariota was complemented by a potent rushing attack. Led by DeMarco Murray, who had 123 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, the team totaled 214 yards on the ground. Rookie Derrick Henry added 60 rushing yards and a score.

In eight games as a member of the Titans, Murray has accumulated four 100-yard games. He became the first Titans player to rush for at least 100 yards four times in the team’s first eight games of a season since Chris Johnson in 2010. On the 2016 NFL leaderboards, Murray ranks second with 756 rushing yards and 953 scrimmage yards.

San Diego Chargers

Chargers HelmetThe Chargers are in their fourth season under head coach Mike McCoy, who led his team to back-to-back 9-7 finishes in his first two seasons, including a playoff berth in 2013. They went 4-12 in 2015.

After a 1-4 start to 2016, the Chargers won consecutive games against the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons. Last week they traveled to Denver for a rematch with the Broncos and fell by a final score of 27-19. Quarterback Philip Rivers passed for 267 yards and two touchdowns in the loss, and Melvin Gordon rushed for 111 yards.

Rivers, a native of Decatur, AL, is in his 13th NFL campaign, all of which have been in San Diego. The 6-foot-5, 228-pound signal caller set team records in 2015 with 661 attempts and 437 completions while passing for 4,792 yards, the second-highest total in franchise history.
