Ashley Slay named APSU Athlete of the Week for November 3rd, 2016

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Junior outside hitter Ashley Slay, of the Austin Peay State University volleyball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

For the second time in 2016, Slay earned adidas® / Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, this time for hitting over .400 in three Governor victories.

The Nashville Tennessee native opened the week with seven kills against Alabama A&M but saved her best for the OVC slate, posting 16 kills against UT Martin, Friday, and her season’s second 22-kill performance in Saturday’s five-set comeback win against Southeast Missouri.

In sweeping the week, Slay and the Govs became the first Austin Peay squad to win 20 games since the 2010 team that won the OVC Tournament.

Slay now has 337 kills (3.30 kills per set) and 92 blocks this season.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Sophomore Gunnar Scholato, of the football team, made a career-high 18 tackles, including three for a loss, against Southeast Missouri last week, with the total tackles mark ranking second in FCS for the week.
  • Junior Lindsey Todd, of the soccer team, made four saves in a shutout of Murray State in the regular season finale, Thursday.  
  • Sophomore Kristen Stucker, of the volleyball team, earned OVC Setter of the Week for the third consecutive week and fourth time in 2016, highlighted by an eye-popping 63 assists in Saturday’s contest against Southeast Missouri—one shy of the Austin Peay record in the modern scoring format.
  • Freshman JaVaughn Craig, of the football team, rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown and passed for 90 yards and another score in the Govs trip to Southeast Missouri last week.
