Clarksville, TN – Freshman running back Kentel Williams, of the football team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.
Williams raced into the history books last week, posting the Ohio Valley Conference and Austin Peay record with 399 all-purpose yards against Eastern Kentucky in the home finale.
He posted 181 yards on kick returns, including a 97-yard return for touchdown, and 176 yards on the ground that included another score. He also led the Govs in receiving with two catches for 42 yards.
Williams’ performance netted him a trio of awards from the Ohio Valley Conference—the first time an individual player has earned three awards in the same weekend.The Knoxville native was named adidas®/Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player, Special Teamer and Newcomer of the Week, then capped the week with STATS Inc. FCS Freshman of the Week honors.
The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included
- Sophomore setter Kristen Stucker, of the volleyball team, closed out the regular season with double-doubles against SIU Edwardsville (31 assists, 13 digs) and Eastern Illinois (35-16) to help the Govs capture the No. 3 seed in the OVC Tournament.
- Junior guard Josh Robinson, of the basketball team, led the Governors in scoring against Dayton (26 points) and Oakland City (17), hitting 14-of-29 shots in his first two contests. He also set career highs in assists (seven) and steals (six) against the Mighty Oaks.
