Banks posted 15 points against the Hilltoppers, shooting 6-of-13 from the floor.

The Louisville native needed 14 points entering Saturday, and her layup with 2:55 remaining – her final shot attempt of the game – put her over the top.

Junior Brianne Alexander led the Govs offensively, going 7-of-10 for 16 points. It’s her second double-digit scoring output of the season, and fourth time in her career she has led APSU in scoring.

The Governors and Hilltoppers were tied 13-13 at the end of the first quarter before WKU went on a run, scoring 31 points in the second to take a 44-24 lead at halftime. The Lady Toppers shot 65 percent in the period, including four three-pointers.

However, Austin Peay didn’t go away easily, cutting the deficit to 17 after a 26-point third quarter. But WKU matched APSU’s 41 second-half points en route to the win.

Game Notes

With her 15-point performance, Banks has reached double figures in all but one game in 2016, including five of 15 points or more.

Redshirt sophomore guard Falon Baker added 11 points off the bench as the third Gov to reach double-digits. It was her fifth outing of 10 or more points after knocking down three three-pointers on Saturday.

Speaking of the bench, Austin Peay’s non-starters accounted for 45 of the team’s 65 points, led by Alexander and Baker.

Senior guard April Rivers was another contributor as a reserve, scoring six points which included a three.

Senior forward Beth Rates recorded two blocks in the contest, giving her 97 all-time.

Senior guard Jacey Scott posted season-highs in both minutes (14) and points (five).

Saturday’s game was David Midlick‘s 100th as a collegiate head coach.

David Midlick’s Message

“Tearra has had some monster games this year, despite demanding two or three people around her. But she takes it and continues to play. I’m extremely proud of her work ethic and what she’s done for the first nine games this season.”
