Austin Peay State University Track and Field have strong performance at Ohio State Tune-Up

APSU Women's Track and Field - Austin Peay State UniversityColumbus, OH – Austin Peay State University track and field got back to work this weekend after a much-needed week off and put together a string of strong performances at Friday’s Ohio State Tune-Up—the Governors final event before the 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships.

“Really pleased with the team today,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “We needed to get a few things straight before conference next week and I think we accomplished that, particularly in the pole vault and hurdles.”

Both teams come into Saturday’s contest looking to get back on the right track. The Vols (14-12, 6-7 SEC) have dropped two straight contests, suffering its most recent defeat at No. 13 Kentucky, 83-58, on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, the Tigers (7-18, 2-11 SEC) are looking to return to their winning ways after falling to Alabama on Wednesday night, 57-54.

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team unleashed a four home run night, helping support starting pitcher Alex Robles en route to a 9-2 season-opening victory, Friday afternoon, in the second game of the Riverview Inn Governors Challenge at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Robles (1-0) was impressive in the opener, facing just 18 batters (three over the minimum) in his five-inning outing.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office promotes Two Deputies

 

Montgomery County Sheriff's OfficeClarksville, TN – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) would like to congratulate two deputies in the Detention Division on their recent promotions.

Daniel Black and Melody Wolfe have been promoted to Field Training Officer.

They will both work as FTO’s on third shift in the Montgomery County Jail.

At 5-8 in league play, wins are paramount for the Governors, who face a winless Cougar squad in the regular season home finale. Tennessee Tech, Southeast Missouri and Tennessee State currently stand as the sixth, seventh and eighth seeds for the OVC Tournament, each with seven wins entering the weekend.

Clarksville Police Department holds New Officer Commissioning Ceremony

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – Brendan Davis became the Clarksville Police Department’s newest police officer Thursday afternoon, February 16th, 2017.

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan administered the oath of office to the former Houston County deputy at a 1:30pm ceremony at the mayor’s office.

Davis, who is already a state-certified officer, was a 2011 graduate of Houston County High School.

APSU Women’s Golf picked Sixth, Men’s Golf picked Ninth in OVC Preseason Poll

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf was picked to finish sixth in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll, with their counterparts on the men’s side slated ninth in a vote of league coaches.

That was announced by the OVC ahead of the start of regular season competition, with the APSU men’s team set to get underway this weekend at the Invitational at Savannah Harbor, hosted by William and Mary in Savannah, GA.

While replacing Jessica Cathey hasn’t been easy for Sara Robson‘s squad, the women’s golf team saw Taylor Goodley and Ashton Goodley develop into a dynamic one-two punch at the top of the Austin Peay lineup, with Taylor earning OVC Golfer of the Week after leading the Govs to runner-up honors at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, October 11th.

Mayor McMillan urges motorists to slow down and be patient

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – With several intersection improvement projects under way, travel is tough on the southernmost route connecting Interstate 24 at Exit 11 with downtown Clarksville.

City of Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan urges patience and caution, especially on this route that includes roads with several names and numbers: State Route 76/Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, U.S. Highway 41A Bypass and State Route 112.
