APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s baseball team will get a final weekend test before the start of Ohio Valley Conference play when it hosts Mercer in a three-game series at Raymond C. Hand Park.

The series opener has been moved up to 3:00pm, Friday to avoid inclement weather with 1:00pm contests to follow both Saturday and Sunday.

Job Influx Meets a 5.4 Percent Tennessee Unemployment Rate in January

 

Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce DevelopmentNashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips announces a preliminary unemployment rate for January at 5.4 percent, increasing from the revised December rate of 5.1 percent.

The U.S. preliminary rate for January is 4.8 percent, up one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous month.

APSU Softball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will face some of its toughest competition of the year this weekend, as they travel to Oxford, MS, to participate in the Ole Miss Red & Blue Classic.

The Govs (5-4) will open play 10:00am, Friday, versus Nicholls State (12-6), followed by a non-conference matchup versus Ohio Valley Conference member UT Martin (12-2) at 3:00pm.

Alabama upsets Tennessee Lady Vols in second round of SEC Tournament

UT Lady VolsGreenville, SC – Despite a double-double by Mercedes Russell, Tennessee was never able to get in a consistent groove against Alabama in the second round of the SEC Tournament at Bon Secours Wellness Arena, falling 72-64.

Russell finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds in the contest, both of which were game highs. Diamond DeShields posted another all-around performance, totaling 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Jordan Reynolds and Jaime Nared also cracked double-digit scoring, with 14 and 11, respectively. Nared also added seven rebounds and three assists.

APSU Women's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityNashville, TN – The 2016-17 season came to an end for Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team after a 59-43 loss to UT Martin, Thursday, in the Municipal Auditorium.

The Governors finish the season with a 14-16 record – the most wins since 2010-11.

Clarksville Street Department to offer free pickup of yard debris beginning March 13th

 

Material must be placed in paper bags or boxes

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Once again as spring approaches, the Clarksville Street Department will offer free pickup of yard debris, leaves and limbs.

The spring service period will begin Monday, March 13th and continue through April 10th. Yard debris, such as leaves and clippings, must be placed in biodegradable paper bags or cardboard boxes and placed near the street.

APSU Men's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will hold an 11:00am, Monday, press conference to celebrate the career of Dave Loos, who will announce his retirement after 27 years as head men’s basketball coach—including 16 as athletics director.

‘The Dean of Ohio Valley Conference basketball coaches’, Loos walks away following a storied career which included a league-record 421 victories, five OVC Coach of the Year honors and nine total OVC titles, including four OVC Tournament wins.

Qualifying charitable or civic organizations may apply

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Qualified non-profit charitable or civic organizations serving Clarksville have an opportunity to seek the City’s financial support on a limited basis.

The City is authorized under state statute (TCA 6-54-111) to appropriate money for non-profit organizations. The law also outlines which non-profit charitable or civic organizations are eligible.

APSU to hold Asanbe Diversity Symposium on March 16th, “Ain’t I a Woman!” to headline

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Slated for next month at Austin Peay State University, The Asanbe Diversity Symposium will spotlight the lives of four powerful African American women with a performance of “Ain’t I a Woman!” by nationally acclaimed performance group, The Core Ensemble.

The performance takes place on March 16th at 1:00pm in the Trahern Theatre. A panel discussion will take place at 2:30pm in the Wilbur N. Daniel African-American Cultural Center. The Asanbe Diversity Symposium is free and open to the public.
