APSU Softball - Austin Peay State UniversityCookeville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s  Autumn Hanners recorded the Govs first 1-0 shutout in three years, Saturday at Tennessee Tech’s Softball Field, while Kacy Acree accounted all the scoring in the Ohio Valley Conference contest to earn a split with the Golden Eagles after dropping a 10-inning heartbreaker in the opener, 6-5.

APSU Women's Volleyball - Austin Peay State UniversityAtlanta, GA – The Austin Peay State University beach volleyball team opened the GSU Diggin’ Duals with a pair of losses Saturday at the GSU Beach Volleyball Complex. APSU fell to Jacksonville State, 4-1 and then to UAB 5-0.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Struck on Interstate 24 during Traffic Stop

 

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSOClarksville, TN – A Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputy was struck by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop Saturday afternoon.

The deputy was conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 24 west bound at mile marker 13 when a vehicle for unknown reasons went on the shoulder of interstate and stuck his patrol vehicle from behind, pushing it into the traffic violator’s vehicle, which struck the deputy, throwing him on the interstate.

The deputy has non-life-threatening injuries and has been transported to the hospital.

Clarksville Gas and Water announces Wilma Rudolph Boulevard Lane Closure Planned

Clarksville Gas and Water Department - CGWClarksville, TN – Clarksville Gas and Water has planned road repair and pavement work tomorrow morning at 7:00am on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard at the Target shopping center and Rafferty’s entrance at Governor’s Square Mall.

Workers will close the outer northbound lane of Wilma Rudolph Boulevard between Athletic Avenue and the shopping center entrance during the work.

Track and Field’s Kaylnn Pitts named APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Senior jumper Kaylnn Pitts, of the Austin Peay State University track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Pitts took over the lead in the Ohio Valley Conference triple jump race with a 12.44m (40-9.75) mark at Ole Miss’ Joe Walker Invitational, earning runner-up in the 17-competitor field. She also earned fourth out of 31 in the long jump with a 5.72m (18-9.25) mark; both were season-bests for the Woonsocket, Rhode Island native.

United States Army to issue PT bracelet with 24/7 fitness tracking, remote mentoring

U.S. ArmyWashington, D.C. – U.S. Army officials on Saturday announced it will soon field a personal fitness bracelet that will allow Army leaders to track their Soldiers’ fitness in real time.

The technology will enable Army leadership to monitor their Soldiers’ activity level, physical location, and intake of foods, liquids, and other substances. It also allows leaders to provide remote mentoring in real time, according to Dr. Duke McDirkington, the lead scientific advisor from the U.S. Army’s Research Institute of Environmental Medicine, or USARIEM, and the co-chair of the Army’s Physical Training Belt Task Force.

Austin Peay State University holds Historic First Board of Trustees meeting

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University convened its inaugural Board of Trustees meeting Thursday, March 30th, completing the transition from the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) to its own local governing board.

Austin Peay President Alisa White, joined by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and observed by University faculty and staff, as well as media and members of the community, called the ‘historic’ first meeting to order.
