APSU’s Savannah Amato earns OVC Field Athlete of the Week award

APSU Women's Track and Field - Austin Peay State UniversityBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University sophomore pole vaulter Savannah Amato has been named adidas®/Ohio Valley Conference Female Co-Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday morning.

Amato placed sixth in the pole vault at the prestigious Florida Relays with a 3.85m (12-7.50) mark, assuming the top spot on the OVC’s best lists in the event.

The Delaware, Ohio native defeated the No. 11, No. 16, No. 27 and No. 31 performers in the region, moving into a tie for 31st in the NCAA East Region. She shares this week’s award with SIU Edwardsville’s Nichyria Byrd.

This is Amato’s second weekly award from the conference in 2017; she also earned the February 22nd award during indoor season. It’s her third award overall.

Amato and the Govs continue the outdoor season this weekend in nearby Bowling Green, Kentucky at the Hilltopper Relays, hosted by Western Kentucky. The two-day event begins April 7th.
