Austin Peay Softball’s Autumn Hanners named APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University softball team senior pitcher Autumn Hanners has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Hanners picked up two complete-game victories for the Govs last week, holding off Memphis in a 4-2 mid-week decision and tossing a shutout at Tennessee Tech during conference action.

The Orlando, FL native struck out three and allowed just one earned against the Tigers in the Governors first win against Memphis since 2007.

She followed that by spinning her season’s first complete-game shutout, scattering six hits and striking out four Golden Eagles, Saturday.

Over her last 27 innings, Hanners has now posted a 0.78 ERA, allowing less than one hit per inning and posting a .240 opponent batting average.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

  • Sophomore Ashton Goodley, of the women’s golf team, posted an 11th-place finish at the Colonel Classic, making it three straight top-20 finishes after a 231 (76-77-78).
  • Sophomore pole vaulter Savannah Amato, of the track and field team, placed sixth at the prestigious Florida Relays with a 3.85m (12-7.50) mark, moving her into a tie for 31st in the NCAA East Region in the pole vault.
  • Sophomore Lidia Yanes Garcia, of the women’s tennis team, picked up two wins in No. 1 singles against Southeast Missouri’s Isabella Krupa (6-0, 6-3) and UT Martin’s Sarah Candeloro (7-6 [7-4], 6-3), running her win streak to seven consecutive singles matches.
