Plenty of entertainment surrounds APSU Baseball weekend

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Fans attending any of Austin Peay State University’s baseball games this weekend against Belmont will have plenty of entertainment besides the action on the field. The Austin Peay athletics department has several pregame, in-game and postgame promotions in store for each game of the three-game series.

The entertainment begins before the 6:00pm, Friday series opener with free Govs monocles to the first 100 fans through the game.

New Austin Peay men’s basketball head coach Matt Figger and APSU Coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Stephen Dominy also will throw out first pitches prior to the game. That will be followed by a special guests singing the national anthem.

Friday’s contest also is Faculty Appreciation Night at the ball game with members of the Austin Peay faculty recognized during the game. The Order of Omega Leadership Honor Society is the night’s sponsoring fraternal organization. Fans will want to stick around for the seventh-inning stretch as the Govs will kickoff a series of special guest singers for “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

Saturday’s contest will feature Clarksville-based gospel singer Iva Foster presenting the national anthem. The Chi Omega women’s fraternity is the day’s sponsoring fraternal organization as part of their Make-A-Wish campaign. And another special group will be on hand to present “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

The series finale is Austin Peay’s Family Fun Day and Sinker Sunday. The first five dozen fans into the ballpark will receive a free Krispy Kreme donut, joining the Govs pitching staff in their weekly tradition of donuts (a.k.a. Sinkers) prior to Sunday contests. Kids attending the contest can enjoy the Governors inflatable bounce house during the game and then can run the bases after the game.

Also prior to Sunday’s contest, Richview Middle School teacher Traci Koon will present the national anthem. Clarksville National Little League teams will be in attendance with Wyatt Beasley tossing the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game. During the seventh-inning stretch Austin Peay athletics staff members Hayden McClain and Ryan Combs will sing “God Bless America.”

Also joining the excitement on Friday and Sunday are the Austin Peay Govs Girls, who will be in attendance for Friday and Sunday’s contests. All of that is in addition to the multiple in-game promotions at every Austin Peay baseball contest.
