Bowling Green, KY – Austin Peay State University track and field earned a number of top marks, with one standout hurdler nearly knocking off a school-record, at the Hilltopper Relays, hosted by Western Kentucky at Charles M. Reuter Track and Field Complex.
In the 400m dash, senior Terri Morris raced to a fifth-place finish with a season-best 56.52, which should move her up in the OVC rankings. Freshman Garielle Netter also should receive a boost in the conference charts after posting a career-best 12.25 100m dash mark.
“Myiah had a good run last week in Florida and an even better run today,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “Terri had her best time of the year. This was a really good day for us on the track.”
Senior Kaylnn Pitts picked up a big win in the triple jump, hitting 12.31m (40-4.75) to outdistance the field by nearly a foot. Classmate Chancis Jones‘ 5.92m (19-5.25) mark moved her up to third in the Ohio Valley Conference, placing her behind only Indiana Tech’s Tia Holmes—who is now third in the NAIA— this weekend.
Junior Keyondria Ross‘ season-best 1.60m (5-3.0) high jump mark was good for sixth at the event and moved her out of a 10th-place logjam on the conference best lists and into sixth overall.
“It felt like we picked up where we left off yesterday,” Molnar said. “This was a very productive day, we made lots of strides in the right direction. I’m pleased with our efforts today and we’re excited to get back in front of our home fans next week.”
The Govs will host the annual APSU Invitational, April 14th-15th, from Fortera Stadium in Clarksville Tennessee.
