APSU Softball travels to Jacksonville State for Friday doubleheader

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will travel to Ohio Valley Conference leading Jacksonville State for a, 1:00pm, Friday doubleheader at University Field, to wrap-up what has been an eight-game conference road streak for the Govs.

The doubleheader will be the 38th and 39th all-time games in the series between Austin Peay (14-24, 2-8 OVC) and Jacksonville State (30-9, 9-1 OVC), dating back to their first meeting on March 6th, 1993 in Atlanta, GA, at the Georgia State Round-Robin Tournament.

Overall, the Govs trail in the series 27-10 overall and 13-4 in games played in Jacksonville.

Offensively after the Govs first 38 games this season, they are led by sophomore catcher Carly Mattson‘s .324 batting average – which includes five doubles and nine home runs. She also leads the team with 15 walks, while driving in 20 runs and scoring 20 times.

Sophomore third baseman Danielle Liermann is just two points behind Mattson, coming in at .322, with nine doubles, nine home runs and a team-best 31 runs driven in.

Red-shirt sophomore Kacy Acree‘s recent hot streak has pushed her batting average over the .300 mark, with the California native batting .305, with seven doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 22 RBI. She also leads the team with 28 runs scored and in stolen bases with 15.

In the circle, freshman Kelsey Gross leads the Govs with a 7-7 win-loss mark, with a 6.14 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 84.1 inning pitched.

Senior Autumn Hanners is just a win behind Gross, with a 6-9 record, with a team leading 98.2 inning pitched, while posting a team-best 3.26 ERA and 49 strikeouts this season.

Senior Christiana Gable (1-6, 5.09 ERA and 23 k’s in 42.2 innings) has the other APSU win this season.
