APSU Sports Information

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team senior Erik Hedberg has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Hedberg was runner-up at the Tiger Invitational, sharing the honor out of the 96-man field with Missouri’s Hayden Buckley after shooting a four-under par 212 (71-72-69). The Barcelona native led the tournament in birdies (19) and averaged a tournament-best 3.67 strokes per hole on par-4 attempts; he rolled in eight birdies overall and shot three-under on par-4s during Tuesday’s final round.

His final-round 69 makes him the third Gov in as many tournaments to record a final-round score in the 60s, after Alex Vegh (69, Coca-Cola Wofford Intercollegiate) and Hunter Tidwell (68, Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate).

Among OVC golfers with a minimum of 25 rounds completed, Hedberg’s 74.6 stroke average ranks 19th, thanks in no small part to a recent stretch that has seen him shoot par or better in five of his last six rounds.

For his efforts, Hedberg earned his first career Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week honor, sharing the honor with UT Martin’s Hunter Richardson. He’s Austin Peay’s first weekly award winner since 2014.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.
