Powerful Performances kick off Clarksville’s Rivers and Spires

Rivers and Spires FestivalClarksville, TN – Clarksville’s 15th Rivers and Spires Festival began Thursday, April 21st not at a walk or a sprint, but like a race car roaring around the track. The performances on the Public Square Stage were a soulful adrenaline filled ride much like getting on the 50 mph triple looping Mind Bender roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia.

The festival start at 5:00pm and the party went on well past 10:00pm. The weather was warm with a slight breeze and best of all, the rain stayed away.

Northeast High School’s Exit One and JV Show Choirs, hometown favorites, started things off with Motown songs, show tunes and choreographed dance routines. Their musical work featured a wide range of strong voices, harmony and solo work that enthralled the audience.

They performed songs from a Chorus Line, The Four Tops, The Supremes, The Temptations and many others.

“Playing here today was great. The weather held up. It was wonderful,” said Debbie Wilson, Northeast High School Choir Director. “I think the kids did super today.”

Who’s Bad took the stage at 7:15pm performing songs by Michael Jackson. Once they hit the stage, electricity filled the air and the excitement level reached ten. Who’s Bad performed songs throughout Michael Jackson’s career. The sound, the vocals, not to mention the thrilling dance moves delighted everyone. By the end of their show, the packed Public Square area was shouting, and grooving to the beat.

Then enters Chase and Ovation performing songs in tribute to the late, great artist, Prince. Their sound and soulful performance took the ignited the audience and sent the adrenaline level soaring. Everyone was singing and swaying to the music.

Midway through the show, they performed a song by Sheila E. as well as “Jungle Love” and “The Bird” by Morris Day and the Time. The funk rock sound was exhilarating.

No one wanted to leave. No one wanted the party to end. This by far was the best opening day for Rivers and Spires in it’s 15 years. It was the largest crowd to kick off the festival that I have ever seen.

Both Who’s Bad and Chase & Ovation gave power packed performances and thrilled the crowd.
