Austin Peay State University Softball hosts Belmont, Monday

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will play its first home games in the month of April, 3:00pm, Monday at Cheryl Holt Field, when they play host Belmont University for an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader.

The Govs (14-26, 2-10 OVC) haven’t played at home since March 26th, versus Eastern Kentucky, with their last 12 contests – including eight OVC tilts – coming on opponent’s home turf.

Overall, the doubleheader will be the 46th and 47th all-time games in the series between the Govs and Bruins (29-14, 5-7 OVC), dating back to their first meeting on March 22nd, 1998, with APSU holding a 22-21-2 lead in the series – including a 10-8 mark in games played in Clarksville.

APSU Softball - Danielle LiermannOffensively after the Govs first 40 games this season, they are led by sophomore third baseman Danielle Liermann‘s .323 batting average – which includes nine doubles and nine home runs – and a team-high 32 runs driven in.

Red-shirt sophomore outfielder Kacy Acree and sophomore catcher Carly Mattson also enter the matchup hitting over .300 on the season, with Acree batting .306 and Mattson .304.

Acree has recorded seven doubles, four triples and seven home runs this season, with 23 RBI and team high’s in runs scored (28) and stolen bases (15).

APSU Softball - Carly MattsonMattson has five doubles and nine home runs, with 20 RBI and 20 runs scored, while leading the team in walks (15).

Sophomore shortstop Kendall Vedder has also posted solid numbers this spring, batting .272, with seven doubles, six home runs and 20 runs driven in.

In the circle, freshman Kelsey Gross leads the Govs with a 7-8 win-loss mark, which includes a 6.35 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 89.1 innings pitched.

Senior Autumn Hanners has logged the most inning pitched this season for APSU, with 103.2 innings worked with a 6-10 record and 49 strikeouts, while fellow senior Christiana Gable (1-6, 5.09 ERA and 23 k’s in 42.2 innings) has the other Govs win this season.
