Nashville Sounds rallies in eight to beat El Paso Chihuahuas, 7-3

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds overcame a three-run deficit Saturday night to defeat the El Paso Chihuahuas 7-3 in front of a sellout crowd at First Tennessee Park. 10,193 fans witnessed the Ryan Lavarnway rip a bases clearing double in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Sounds a lead they would not relinquish.

The eighth inning rally for the Sounds (13-13) began when Matt Olson reached on a strikeout wild pitch with two outs. Matt Chapman and Jaycob Brugman then each drew walks to set up Lavarnway to be the hero.

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball seniors went out with a bang, Saturday at Cheryl Holt Field, as they defeated Murray State in their season-closing game, 8-2, after dropping the first game of the Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader, 9-1.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office recovers Stolen Property

 

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSOClarksville, TN – Investigators and deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office have recovered nearly $250,000 in stolen property in six separate theft cases.

Four all-terrain vehicles were recovered on May 3rd, 2017 on Hampton Station Road. The ATV’s were stolen from a residence in Clarksville. The property is valued at $10,000. Three juveniles have been taken into custody in connection with the thefts.

A skid steer was recovered on April 28th, 2017 on Monticello Trace. The items were stolen from a business in Clarksville. The property is valued at $80,000.

Former APSU President Sherry Hoppe enshrinement into OVC Hall of Fame

Austin Peay State University - APSUBrentwood, TN – Former Austin Peay State University President and noted author Dr. Sherry Hoppe has been selected for induction into the Ohio Valley Conference Hall of Fame, with the official ceremony set for Friday, June 2nd during the annual OVC Honors Brunch in Nashville Tennessee.

The Ohio Valley Conference Hall of Fame was organized in 1977 with the intent of honoring the coaches, administrators, faculty and staff that have been associated with the OVC for at least five years and provided extensive and outstanding service to the Conference.

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan honors Reverend Jimmy Terry with proclamation

 

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – The Reverend Jimmy Terry was honored Thursday with a proclamation by Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan, noting his long service to the community, Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, and Tabernacle Christian School, which he founded in 1999.

After he offered a City Council meeting prayer, in a procession rarely seen in the chamber, members of the Council and several city officials each left their seats and one-by-one approached the tall, thin preacher and gave him a big, heartfelt hug.

Clarksville Gas and Water announces Sewer Main Line Rehabilitation Contract Work Scheduled to Start Up

Clarksville Gas and Water Department - CGWClarksville, TN – Clarksville Gas and Water contractors are scheduled to start up sewer main line rehabilitation work in North Clarksville on Monday, May 8th, as part of Clarksville’s ongoing sewer rehabilitation program.

Work will begin on the following streets through Friday, May 12th, and unfinished work will be rescheduled to the following work week.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University baseball team senior utility player Alex Robles has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

In Sunday’s rubber match against UT Martin, Robles earned another in a series of firsts in his Austin Peay career—his first cycle, in a 5-for-5 effort that paced the Govs to an 8-5 win against the Skyhawks. Additionally, Robles earned the win on the mound with a six-inning, six-strikeout performance—the first known instance of a player hitting for the cycle and earning the win on the mound in the same game.

Mayors proclaim Safe Boating Week

 

As season heats up, boaters urged to use caution

City of Clarksville - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – Local government leaders and the United States Coast Guard and Auxiliary are urging residents to be safe on the water as Memorial Day and the summer boating season approaches.

Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan, Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett and Coast Guard officials gathered recently to sign a proclamation declaring May 20th-26th as National Safe Boating Week.
