Tennessee State Fire Marshal Warns of Increased Fire, Carbon Monoxide Risks During Heating Season

 

Tennessee State Fire MarshalNashville, TN – Although Tennessee is experiencing mild temperatures this week, the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) reminds consumers that winter is indeed coming, and bringing with it an increased risk for home fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.

The SFMO urges consumers to take safety measures to avoid the hazards that can result from using household heating appliances during the cold weather seasons.

“Statistics consistently show a substantial uptick in fire fatalities during heating season,” said State Fire Marshal and Commerce & Insurance Commissioner Julie Mix McPeak.

From 2012-2016, Tennessee Fire Departments responded to 2,938 home structure fires that involved heating equipment.

APSU Beach Volleyball has new home for 2018 season

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – In late October the finishing touches were put on the newest addition to Austin Peay State University’s recreation offerings with three beach volleyball courts located on the Winfield Dunn Center’s front lawn.

The new courts will be used by the Governors Beach Volleyball program, which will begin its second collegiate campaign next spring.

The Bowling Green, Kentucky native earned adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week honors after pacing the Govs with a game-high 23 points in his first career start, an 86-61 thrashing of Miami University at the Austin Peay Dunn Center.

3rd Annual SpiritFest to take place this Saturday

 

SpiritFest offers Family Fun Activities before Clarksville’s Lighted Christmas Parade

Clarksville's SpiritfestClarksville, TN – On Saturday, December 2nd, 2017, the 3rd Annual SpiritFest, a holiday event, will offer a bounty of free activities, including visits with Santa Claus, rides on the International Express Bus, four kids’ inflatables, live music on the new Downtown Commons stage, ice skating, art and gift markets, food trucks and a live nativity with animals. SpiritFest begins at 2:00pm and runs until 5:00pm.

It will start three hours before Clarksville’s 58th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade, which will pass by its location in Historic Downtown Clarksville.

SpiritFest, a free “Pre-Parade Celebration of Christmas,” will feature kids’ inflatables, Santa Claus, complimentary hot chocolate and cookies, Christmas music performances by multiple groups, a live nativity including animals, food trucks and two art and gift markets.
