“Overall, I thought we had a solid effort today,” Molnar said. “We were focused and executed well. We have a very young team and they learned a lot today.”

One freshman who made her debut a memorable was Lennex Walker. She won heat one of the 60m hurdles with an 8.93 mark, placing 11th overall, while also earning a top-25 mark in the 200m dash with 25.63 run. The 60m hurdles proved to be Austin Peay’s top event—in addition to Walker’s performance, freshman Denia Hill-Tate (9.29, 16th), sophomore Kaitlyn Black (9.30, 17th) and freshman Kamille Dunbar (9.37, 20th) also placing in the top-20.

A pair of sophomores also showed well in the 60m dash, with Diamond Battle (7.79, t-15th) and Garielle Netter (7.94, 25th) posting top-25 finishes, while senior Allysha Scott (57.88, 11th) and sophomore Amelia Thiesing (58.87, 19th) got their seasons off to strong starts.

In field events, junior Nia Gibbs-Francis‘ 1.57m (5-2.25) high jump mark put her 13th in a stacked field.

The Govs continue the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule next Saturday and Southern Illinois’ Saluki Fast Start.

“We’ll take the lessons we learned today and put them to use next week in Carbondale,” Molnar said. “This group is young and gonna be fun to work with.”
