APSU Basketball’s Terry Taylor earns third OVC Freshman of the Week award

APSU Sports Information

APSU Men's BasketballBrentwood, TN – Freshman forward Terry Taylor, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week.

Already, the Bowling Green Kentucky native has earned three weekly honors from the OVC, the latest coming thanks to a 30-point explosion at Evansville, Saturday.

APSU Men's Basketball - Terry Taylor

Taylor hit 12-of-17 attempts from the floor and blocked a career-high three shots to help Austin Peay force overtime at the Ford Center, site of the 2017-18 OVC Men and Women’s Basketball Tournaments.

Taylor took over late for the Govs, almost single-handedly erasing a nine-point second half deficit. From 9:40 to the 1:48 mark of the second half, Taylor sparked a 15-5 Austin Peay run, scoring 10 of the Governors 15 points himself during that stretch.

In breaking the 30-point barrier for the first time in his Austin Peay career, Taylor entered some rarified air; he’s the first freshman to score at least 30 in a single game since Nick Stapleton (February 13th, 1999 against Middle Tennessee).

The Freshman of the Week honor is taking up a semi-permanent residence in Clarksville this season; between Taylor (three) and Dayton Gumm (one), a Gov has taken the honor in four of the six weeks it has been bestowed in 2017-18. A Gov has now won at least one of the trio of weekly awards (Freshman, Newcomer and Player of the Week) given out by the conference office in four of the last five weeks.

The Govs return home, Tuesday, December 19th, 2017 to take on Troy in a 7:00pm tipoff in the Dunn Center.
