APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – Following a 10-day break, Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team opens conference play 4:30pm, Thursday, December 28th against SIU Edwardsville in the Winfield Dunn Center.

The Governors begin their conference slate after going 7-4 in their nonconference schedule, Austin Peay’s first seven-win nonconference bid since the 2008-09 season.

The Govs return home after wrapping up nonconference with a road swing at Illinois, December 16th, and Ball State, December 18th. The Govs hung tough in the first half against Ball State, but were unable to stop the Ball State offensive attack in the final two periods dropping their final nonconference matchup 89-57.

The Governors are shooting 43.0 percent from the field as a team, averaging 7.7 three-point shots made per game. The Govs are scoring 67.0 points per game, while attacking the glass, averaging 32.8 rebounds per game.  

The Govs are led by the consistent offensive performances of Keisha Gregory and Falon Baker. Gregory is averaging 11.1 points per game on 57.1 percent shooting with Baker adding 10.0 points per game and shooting a team-high 36.8 percent from three-point territory.

Brianne Alexander is owning the paint for the Governors, averaging 8.6 points and hauling in 5.3 rebounds per game. The Govs are getting a lift from the bench as freshman guard Brianah Ferby is averaging 9.6 points per game, while dishing out 10 assists and grabbing 16 steals in her first 11 games.

The Govs are facing a Cougar squad that has struggled on the road in nonconference play going 1-4, and 3-8 overall coming into the Ohio Valley Conference schedule. The Cougars are shooting 35.9 percent from the field, with redshirt senior Lauren White averaging 14.6 points per game for SIUE.

APSU Storylines

Conference Contests
The Governors have gone 8-8 in conference play for the past two seasons under head coach David Midlick. The Governors will look to ride their balanced offense and defensive pressure into the OVC schedule.

Bench Benefits
Austin Peay racked up 46 bench points in their final nonconference game at Ball State, December 18th. Nieja Crawford and Shelbe Piggie led the way with 11 and nine points respectively.

Double-Digits
Two Governors are averaging double-digits through the first 11 games of the season: Keisha Gregory (11.1) and Falon Baker (10.0).

Nonconference Impact
The Govs open the conference schedule after posting their best nonconference schedule since the 2008-09 season.
