APSU Basketball opens OVC Season with 78-58 home win against SIU Edwardsville

APSU Men's BasketballClarksville, TN – Thanks to dynamite post performances from senior Averyl Ugba and freshman Terry Taylor, Austin Peay State University men’s basketball opened its Ohio Valley Conference schedule with a dominant 78-58 win against SIU Edwardsville, Thursday, in the Dunn Center.

The victory gives Austin Peay (6-7, 1-0 OVC) a win in the league opener for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign, while SIUE (4-8, 0-1) missed the presence of Jalen Henry, the league’s sixth-leading scorer, who missed the game with a lower-body injury.

APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – In a low scoring affair, Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team fell in their Ohio Valley Conference opener 61-38 to SIU Edwardsville, Thursday.  

Both teams came out cold from the floor, with neither side scoring in the first six minutes of the game.

UT Lady VolsFayetteville, AR – The 19th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers are set to begin conference play this weekend, starting with a trip to face Arkansas at Bud Walton Arena on Saturday. The game will tip at 12:00pm CT and will be televised live on SEC Network and streamed online via WatchESPN

Tennessee (9-2) garnered some attention with strong performances during its non-conference slate. With four wins over ‘Power Five’ opponents away from home (#18 Purdue, North Carolina State, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest) and two narrow losses to top-5 teams (Villanova & North Carolina), the Vols proved they had taken the next step forward to becoming an NCAA Tournament team.

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating missing person Shon Allen McAleer. McAlear, a 49-year-old white male, has not been seen or heard from by family since late 2016.

He stands 6 feet tall and weighs 250 pounds. He is believed to be homeless.

Clarksville Gas and Water reports University Avenue Road Closure

This has been updated to include Allen Griffey Road, Harding Drive, Dwight Eisenhower Way, VanBuren Court, McKinley Court, Fillmore Court, Garner Hills Drive, Hillard Lane, Harrison Way and Abraham Drive.

Clarksville Police report Burglary at Double Tap Tactical

 

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – Clarksville Police patrol officers arrived at a South Riverside Drive gun store less than six minutes after a burglar alarm activation on Christmas morning, but a trio of smash-and-grab thieves had already fled the scene with thirty-one stolen firearms.

Upon finding that the front door of Double Tap Tactical had been smashed, officers tactically cleared the building at 3:16am and discovered that several display cases had also been smashed and emptied.

APSU Basketball’s Averyl Ugba named OVC Newcomer of the Week

APSU Men's BasketballBrentwood, TN – Senior forward Averyl Ugba, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team, has been named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Co-Newcomer of the Week.

Ugba averaged 13.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg for the Govs last week as they split against Troy and Western Kentucky to wrap up the non-conference schedule.
