Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett Challenges Fort Campbell’s Major General Andrew Poppas to Broomball

Montgomery County Government TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – The public is invited to attend what is thought to be Clarksville’s first ever broomball match as Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett challenges Fort Campbell’s Major General Andrew Poppas to a backyard broomball game on January 10th, 2018 at 6:30pm at the Downtown Commons outdoor ice skating rink.

Gnash, the Nashville Predator’s Mascot, members from the Predators Energy Team and Predators alumni will be on site greeting fans and cheering on Mayor Durrett and Major General Poppas as they try to outscore each other on the ice.

Smackin’ Brats will be outside the rink selling hotdogs, Brats, and drinks and Joe Padula from the popular Joe Padula morning radio show will provide color commentary during the match. Page’s Clarksville Sporting Goods is sponsoring the equipment for the event.

“This winter has been great watching the families enjoy the ice. Wednesday night’s match is an opportunity to visit with the Nashville Predators organization and our local heroes on Fort Campbell. It’s going to be a good time for everyone, especially when the County team walks away with the trophy,” said Mayor Durrett.

“I would like to thank Mayor Durrett for this invitation and the opportunity to face-off against one another on the ice in Clarksville,” said Major General Andrew P. Poppas, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) commander. “He and I are great friends, and Montgomery County is a tremendous Fort Campbell partner. Thankfully, a Screaming Eagle victory, which is assured given our 75-year legacy and penchant for fighting and winning, will not change our relationship.”

There will be an ice skating session left after the broomball game for anyone who would like to hang around and skate. The last day to skate at the Downtown Commons outdoor ice rink will be January 15th.
