APSU Women's Track and FieldClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University track and field returns to shake off the Christmas rust at Saturday’s Ed Temple Classic, hosted by Tennessee State at the Gentry Center.

Kicking off with field events at 9:00am, followed by the track events at 11, the meet features student-athletes from Alabama A&M, Jackson State and Middle Tennessee in addition to the Govs and host Tigers.

The last time the Govs competed in the Ed Temple Classic, then-freshman Nia Gibbs-Francis placed third in the high jump.

She won’t be in attendance for this—she’s currently on a mission trip in the Caribbean—but freshman Denia Hill-Tate may be the next precocious Gov to climb the charts in the high jump; she was runner-up in the event at the Saluki Fast Start in December, and made the finals of the 60m hurdles as well.

She and sophomore Diamond Battle—who was fourth in the long jump and third in the 60m dash in last month’s visit to Carbondale—look to form a potent duo of dual-threat athletes.

Senior Allysha Scott will enter Saturday’s 400m dash competition as one of the prohibitive favorites; she will take off in the fastest heat, against a trio of Middle Tennessee sprinters

In addition to the track and field competitors heading to Nashville, head coach Doug Molnar will take a quartet of pole vaulters—Savannah Amato, Dascha Hix, Morgan Bradley and Gretchen Rosch—to Cape Girardeau, Missouri for competition.
