APSU Women’s Basketball heads to Cookeville to face Tennessee Tech

APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team places their three-game Ohio Valley Conference winning streak on the line Thursday, January 11th, 2018 at Tennessee Tech. Tip off is set for 5:30pm.

After dropping their OVC opener, the Governors went on a three-game winning streak downing Eastern Illinois, UT Martin and Southeast Missouri as part of their conference homestand.

Falon Baker led the Governors against Southeast Missouri scoring 19 points in her 34 minutes on the floor. Keisha Gregory, who scored in double digits for the first time since returning from injury, added 12 points, and led the team in rebounds with seven, and assists with four. 

Bri Williams continues to run the Govs offense, leading the team in assists (54) and steals (28) on the season, while Brianne Alexander pushes the Governors on both ends of the floor, averaging 8.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

Michaela Campbell has provided a recent spark off of the bench, scoring 10 points against Southeast Missouri, pulling down two rebounds, and shooting 50.0 percent from the floor. Brianah Ferby is averaging 9.3 points per game in her first four starts during conference play.

The Governors are shooting 41.5 percent on the season averaging 65.3 points per game. The Governors attack the boards 31.9 rebounds per game and are leading the turnover margin, averaging 8.3 steals per game.

The Govs are facing a Golden Eagle team that has three players averaging in double figures, shooting 40.1 percent from the floor, and 32.5 percent from beyond the arc. Tennessee Tech is winless in conference play, with all three wins coming at home in nonconference play.

APSU Storylines

Conference Contests
Austin Peay is on a two-game winning streak against Tennessee Tech, winning the last meeting in Cookeville, 87-84 January 5th, 2017. Tennessee Tech leads the overall series 19-61, but the Governors have never lost to the Golden Eagles during the Midlick era.

Backcourt Duo
Falon Baker led the Govs in scoring against Southeast Missouri with 19 points, while Keisha Gregory recorded 12 points and seven rebounds. 

Bench Benefits
Michaela Campbell scored 15 of the Govs 20 bench points against UT Martin, and 10 of the 16 bench points against Southeast Missouri. Campbell was the only Gov to score in double digits against both opponents last week. 

Defensive Impact
The Governors had a combined 47 points off of turnovers against UT Martin and Southeast Missouri, while giving up a season low 21 turnovers in the two matchups.
