Clarksville, TN – In their first conference road game of the season, Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team dropped a close matchup against Tennessee Tech, Thursday, 63-59.
The Golden Eagles had the hot hand early, but Austin Peay (10-6) battled back midway through the first quarter, with veterans Brianne Alexander and Keisha Gregory combining for half of the Govs first quarter points, and Gregory pulling down three rebounds.
Both teams struggled from the floor early in the second period, but Michaela Campbell once again brought a spark off the bench, scoring five points in the first half. The Govs forced 11 first-half turnovers, scoring seven points off of their defensive pressure, but struggled against the Golden Eagle’s pressure inside, trailing by 12 points at halftime.
The Governors came out firing after the break, cutting into the Golden Eagle’s lead behind Alexander’s six points and Campbell’s 80.0 percent shooting from the floor. The Governors shot 64.3 percent from the floor in the third period, pulling within five points heading into the final period.
The Governors traded baskets with Tennessee Tech through the first part of the fourth quarter, but were unable to convert inside late in the period. The Govs fought to make up the first-half deficit, but fell to the Golden Eagles by four points.
Campbell led the way for Governors scoring 19 points, while Alexander added 14 points and five rebounds. Falon Baker and Shelbe Piggie each added seven points, with Baker pulling down five rebounds.

Austin Peay falls to Tennessee Tech for the first time in the Midlick era.
The Govs posted 27 bench points and 15 points off of 16 Golden Eagle turnovers.
Campbell scored a career high 19 points, shooting 63.6 percent from the floor and 75.0 percent from three-point territory.
Campbell has scored in double digits for three straight games.
Keisha Gregory, Baker and Alexander all led the team with five rebounds.
The Govs had 29 bench points against Tennessee Tech.
