APSU Women’s Basketball to host Eastern Kentucky Colonels, Thursday

APSU Women's BasketballClarksville, TN – Following a narrow loss to the conference leading Bruins, Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team returns home 5:15pm, Thursday, January 25th, 2018 to face the Colonels in the Dunn Center.

The Governors found their offensive stride in the second half of their four-game road swing outscoring Tennessee State 41-25 in the final two quarters, and outscoring Belmont in the second and fourth periods.

The Governors showed their skill on both ends of the floor against Belmont, forcing Belmont into 17 turnovers, 12 in the first half, tying their season average.

The Govs grabbed five steals, but only coughed the ball up eight times against the Bruins.

APSU Basketball - Brianne AlexanderBrianne Alexander and Brianah Ferby shined on the offensive end of the floor combining for 51 of the Govs 75 points. Alexander scored 23 points and pulled down five rebounds, going 8-for-18 from the field in her 34 minutes on the floor. Ferby posted a career high 28 points, pulling down eight rebounds, without a turnover in a season high 37 minutes.

Ferby lead all scorers at Belmont, nailing seven three-point shots as the Governors shot 52.2 percent from deep. Ferby is the first player since Tearra Banks at SIU Edwardsville February 15th, 2017 to score more than 25 points in a single game.

APSU Basketball - Brianah FerbyThe Governors are shooting 40.2 percent from the field and 34.0 percent from three-point territory as a team. They also remain steady at the free-throw line, shooting 74.4 percent, averaging 11.3 points from the stripe per game.

Alexander is leading the team in points during conference play, averaging 12.5 points per game with 5.1 rebounds. Ferby is also averaging double digits (10.0), shooting 34.9 percent from beyond the arc. Keisha Gregory continues to lead the Govs in rebounding, pulling down 5.9 per game.

The Govs are facing a Colonel lineup that is 4-4 in conference play with three of their four OVC losses coming on the road. Eastern Kentucky is on a two-game winning streak and coming off a low scoring affair with Jacksonville State. The Governors’ defense will battle the Colonel’s inside-outside play with three players averaging double figures.

APSU Storylines

Series Structure
Austin Peay is 31-47 all time against Eastern Kentucky, having dropped the last two meetings against the Colonels. The Govs lost to EKU in the first round of the OVC Tournament March 3rd, 2016, 68-82, and fell on the road February 1st, 2017, 71-80.

Ferby for Three
Ferby scored a career high 28 points against Belmont, shooting 53.8 percent from three-point territory and draining seven three-point shots. The Govs scored a collective 12 three-point baskets at Belmont, shooting 52.2 percent from deep.

Veteran Leadership
Senior forward Brianne Alexander tied a career high with 23 points against the Bruins, and has been money from the free-throw line, scoring 25 points from the stripe in the last four games.

Taking Care of the Basketball
The Govs forced 17 turnovers against the Bruins, keeping their turnovers to a minimum, only handing the Bruins the ball eight times.
