APSU Baseball to hold first Scrimmage of the Season, Friday

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team holds its first intrasquad practice, including the season’s first scrimmage, Friday at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Friday’s practice and scrimmage kicks off a three-week run up to the Governors Opening Day, February 16th, against Maryland Eastern Shore.

The practice itself gets underway at 2:00pm with the scrimmage scheduled for a 4:00pm first pitch. Practices at Raymond C. Hand Park on the Austin Peay campus are open to the public.

The first week of the preseason will see the Governors practice Friday and either Saturday or Sunday, depending on the weather forecast. A second intrasquad scrimmage will take place this weekend, the time and date will be available on the team’s official Twitter feed (@AustinPeayBSB).

The Governors return 17 letterwinners from last season’s team, including its entire weekend pitching rotation and four position starters. Sophomore Parker Phillips returns to lead the APSU offense after hitting a freshman-record 12 home runs last season. Junior Josh Rye, senior Michael Costanzo and senior Jacques Pucheu return after finishing last season as the Govs weekend rotation.

Austin Peay opens the season with 11 of its first 12 games at Raymond C. Hand Park, kicking off a 28-date home schedule.
