Savannah Amato named APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Junior pole vaulter Savannah Amato, of the Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Amato’s school-record 4.15m (13-7.25) mark at the Samford Open not only won the event handily and kept her atop the Ohio Valley Conference lists in the pole vault, it moved her into a tie for 15th in the nation.

For her efforts, the Delaware, Ohio native was named the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week, Wednesday, her first weekly honor this season and the third indoor honor of her Austin Peay career.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Wednesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Freshman guard Brianah Ferby, of the women’s basketball team, was named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week after scoring a career-high 28 points against Belmont, including seven of the Governors three-pointers, leading all scorers and falling two rebounds short of her first career double-double.
  • Junior guard Steve Harris, of the men’s basketball team, scored a career-high 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting in his first career start at Belmont.
