Nashville Zoo Seeks Volunteers for Weed Wrangling March 3rd

Nashville ZooNashville, TN – Nashville Zoo is seeking volunteers for the third annual Weed Wrangle, a city-wide clean-up day dedicated to ridding Nashville of non-native plant species. Weed Wrangle is set for Saturday, March 3rd, 2018 from 9:00am- 12:00pm.

Exotic invasive plants, particularly bush honeysuckle and Chinese privet, have out competed native plant species over the last hundred years on the Zoo’s property.

Without natural predators, this invasive vegetation negatively impacts the ecosystem, causing a decline in native plants along with the animals that rely on them.

During the clean-up day, volunteers will be paired with a site coordinator who will help them correctly identify the invasive plants and assist with hands-on removal.

Join volunteers from around Nashville for a one-day conservation effort to clear away invasive plant species through hands on removal of especially harmful trees, vines and bushes at Nashville Zoo. Invasive plants and the pests associated with them degrade woodlands, threaten wildlife habitat, and increase the risk of wild fire.

Those interested in volunteering for the Weed Wrangle at Nashville Zoo location must sign up through the Zoo’s website. For more information and to register, visit the Zoo’s website here
