APSU Track and Field’s Tymeitha Tolbert, Savannah Amato earn OVC Weekly Honors

APSU Women's Track and FieldBrentwood, TN – Sophomore Tymeitha Tolbert and junior Savannah Amato, of the Austin Peay State University track and field team, combined to sweep the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Track & Field weekly honors, Wednesday, February 21st.

Amato, of Delaware, Ohio, was named the Female Field Athlete of the Week after posting a third-place finish at last weekend’s Buckeye Tuneup hosted by Ohio State. Her 3.91m mark at the even placed her behind vaulters from Cincinnati and Ohio State. It was the third consecutive week Amato topped the 3.90m mark in the pole vault, giving her good momentum headed into this week’s OVC Indoor Championships.

Tolbert, of Louisville, Kentucky, picked up the Female Track Athlete of the Week honor after establishing the Governors best mark in the 60-meter dash, finishing sixth at the Buckeye Tuneup with a time of 7.71 seconds. The run was the sixth-best in the OVC this season. Tolbert also posted a run of 26.45 seconds in the 200-meter dash, finishing fourth in the event.

Tolbert nabs Austin Peay’s first female track honor this season while Amato earned her second female field athlete.

The Govs reach the pinnacle of the indoor season this weekend when they travel to Charleston, Illinois for the 2018 OVC Indoor Championships.
