Austin Peay State University Softball advances to Hilltopper Spring Fling Tournament Championship game

APSU SoftballBowling Green, KY – Austin Peay’s softball team got outstanding pitching performances in both of their games, Saturday at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Spring Fling Tournament, with the Governors defeating Dayton 3-0 and host Western Kentucky 6-1 to advance to the tournament’s championship game.

Kelly Mardones was stellar for Austin Peay (6-6) in the opener versus Dayton (4-11), holding the Flyers to just two hits and a walk, while striking out four.

#16 Tennessee Vols defeats Georgia to win share of SEC Regular Season Championship

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Tennessee scored the game’s final nine points and survived a thrilling battle with Georgia to win a share of the SEC regular-season championship, 66-61.

The SEC title is UT’s first since the 2007-08 season. The Volunteers were picked in the preseason to finish 13th in the 14-team league.
 
With Tennessee leading 61-60 with less than a minute remaining, Kyle Alexander stole a Georgia pass to give the Vols possession. On the other end of the court, Admiral Schofield hit a mid-range jumper with 17 seconds left to push the Volunteers’ lead to three points, 64-61.

APSU Beach Volleyball defeats Jacksonville State, 4-1

APSU Women's VolleyballCovington, LA – Austin Peay State University beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the New Orleans Invitational, Saturday.

The Governors opened the day with a dominant victory over Ohio Valley Conference member Jacksonville State, topping the Gamecocks 4-1 in the opening match of the day.

Nashville, TN – Ms. Theresa Carl, President of the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation testified before the House Finance, Ways & Means Committee this week on the success of the Governor’s Books from Birth (GBBF) program. Their mission is to promote early childhood literacy in Tennessee’s birth to age five population.

In partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the GBBF gives all preschoolers in Tennessee the opportunity to receive books in the mail at no cost to families.  The vision is a Tennessee where all preschool children have books in their homes, develop a love of reading and learning, and begin school prepared to succeed, from kindergarten throughout their educational journeys.

APSU Baseball rallies to defeat Indiana State, 8-7

APSU BaseballClarksville, TNJohn McDonald batted in two runs as part of a four-run sixth inning that pushed Austin Peay State University’s baseball team to an 8-7 victory against Indiana State, Saturday, at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Governors starter Jacques Pucheu and Sycamores starter Triston Polley battled in a pitcher’s duel through the first five innings, but each had their own method of getting through five frames. However, both starters ran out of gas in the sixth and the offenses took advantage.

AAA says Costly Spring Gas Price Spike Coming to a Pump Near You

 

AAAWashington, D.C. – For the first quarter of the year, gas prices have been expensive. On average, motorists are paying a quarter more than at the same time last year.

While pump prices have dipped in recent weeks, this is not a trend consumers should expect to linger. AAA forecasts the national gas price average will be as much as $2.70/gallon this spring – a costly pump price Americans have not paid since summer of 2015 when prices hit $2.81.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On March 8th and 9th, 2018 the Austin Peay State University Board of Trustees will host its spring meetings at the Fort Campbell Military Installation and on the APSU campus.

The Board’s Business and Finance Committee, Academic Policies and Programs/Student Life Committee, and Audit Committee will meet at 2:00pm that Thursday at the APSU Education Center, Building #203 on the Fort Campbell Army Installation.

APSU Men's TennisClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team once again hits the road for an 11:00am, Sunday, March 4th contest at Kennesaw State, closing out their seven-game road trip.

The Govs (1-7) have not played a home match since January 27th against Chattanooga, playing six road matches in February.
