Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s golf will under the spring season under new management at the Battle at Boulder Creek, a two-day event slated for a Monday start in Boulder City, Nevada.
Playing at par-72 on 6,252 yards, the picturesque course 30 minutes outside Las Vegas has attracted a variety of teams from around the country for the second edition of the event.
In addition to the Govs, Morehead State has ventured west to represent the Ohio Valley Conference, while student-athletes from Eastern Washington, Georgetown, Idaho State, Illinois-Chicago, James Madison, Monmouth, Montana State, Northern Kentucky, Oklahoma City and Radford.
The Govs will play with Eastern Washington and Radford, alma mater of interim Austin Peay head coach Amy McCollum, who will make her debut at the helm of the program in this event.
“We are all really excited to head west this weekend,” McCollum said. “I know everyone is looking forward to multiple days of sunshine and some dry grass to hit off of instead of the wet conditions they’ve pushed through this spring so far.”
She’ll bring a team that won its last outing, the Town and Country Invitational, to close the fall session at Tennessee State. Included in that number will be senior AnnaMichelle Moore, who picked up her first career victory in her last outing; she was the lone player to shoot under par in both rounds at McCabe Golf Course as Austin Peay bested the field by 22 shots.
Atop the lineup will be familiar faces in Taylor and Ashton Goodley, the latter joining Moore and junior Reagan Greene on the all-tournament team in Nashville. Greene and sophomore Meghann Stamps will round out the lineup in the program’s farthest trip west since 2002.
A pair of freshmen, Riley Cooper and Andrea Presilla, also are along for their first action of the spring as individuals.
“This tournament will really give us a chance to see where we’re at strength-wise right now and where we need to focus the rest of the week while we’re out there practicing,” McCollum said. “The team has really worked hard any chance they’ve gotten this season so far regardless of what the weather has been like, so I’m ready to see us back in competition mode again after the long winter break.”
