APSU SoftballBrentwood, TN – Coming off a 2-0 weekend where she didn’t allow a run to score, junior left-hander Morgan Rackel was selected as the adidas® OVC Pitcher of the Week, Monday afternoon, as announced by the conference office.

2018 APSU Softball - Morgan Rackel

It is the 11th time overall and the first in six seasons that a Governors pitcher has earned the honor, with the last being Morgan Brewer on April 30th, 2012.

Rackel, who is from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, spurred the Govs to a 4-0 mark this past weekend at the East Tennessee Buccaneer Classic, winning her lone start with a three-hit complete-game shutout of classic host East Tennessee on Saturday, while striking out nine and walking one.

On Sunday, Rackel picked up the win out of the bullpen versus East Tennessee, pitching the final 3.1 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five and walked none.

Along with the 0.00 ERA, Rackel held opponents to a .114 batting average and no extra-base hits and a WHIP of 0.48 while averaging 9.48 strikeouts per seven innings pitched.

Rackel’s honor comes a week after teammate Danielle Liermann was named OVC Player of the Week, marking the first time since the 2012 season that the Austin Peay softball program has had a OVC Player and Pitcher of the Week in the same season.
