APSU Men's GolfSevierville, TN – The momentum keeps building for Austin Peay State University men’s golf, which enjoyed a very good opening round of the sixth annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, hosted by Tennessee Tech, at Sevierville Golf Club’s River Course.

The Govs are tied for second with Marshall at 290 after the opening round, three shots back of tournament-leading Eastern Kentucky.

Evansville and Tennessee State round out the top five with matching scores of 293. After a tight opening 18, the top eight positions in the 14-team field are separated by just eight shots.

A pair of sophomores led the way for the Govs with spots inside the individual top-10 after 18 holes. Michael Busse‘s opening-round 70 marked his second-straight 70 to open a tournament, while Austin Lancaster‘s 71 marked his third consecutive opening round under-par score; the duo sit in third and seventh, respectively.

Lancaster leads the field in birdies after one round with six, while Busse’s 4.00 stroke average on par-5 efforts led the tournament on Day One.

Sophomore Alex Vegh‘s day featured 14 pars, second-most in the tournament, and a 74; he’s tied for 26th, one shot ahead of freshman Chase Korte at 75, who equaled Lancaster’s team-best 3.00 par-3 scoring average. Freshman Jay Fox rounded out the Austin Peay contingent with an 85.

Monday’s tee time is 9:15am.(CT) in Sevierville; the Govs will be paired with Marshall and Eastern Kentucky.
