Clarksville Police reports Sinkhole on Interstate 24 has eastbound lanes closed

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – Clarksville Police report that sinkhole activity has created a depression in a portion of the roadway near Mile Marker Nine on Interstate 24 in Montgomery County. Traffic is backed up about two miles.

Only one of three lanes of traffic is currently shut down, but all three lanes will be closed and all Eastbound traffic will be stopped as soon as heavy repair equipment arrives.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Department of Transportation are on scene.

No estimate of how long repairs will take or how long the eastbound lanes will be closed has been given. Eastbound drivers are urged to find alternate routes and avoid the area.

Update

TDOT is delaying repairs until after the rain comes through this afternoon. Two lanes are open. The only closed lane is the third ‘truck’ lane.

There is now little to no back-up of traffic in this area.
