The Govs (5-5, 2-0 OVC) defeated Tennessee State and Belmont last week to open OVC play and welcomed Claudia Yanes Garcia back to the lineup.

Even though Yanes Garcia played left-handed, it marked the first time since the first match of the season that the Govs had their full complement of players and did not have to automatically forfeit the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches.

The Gamecocks (9-2, 2-1 OVC) are off to a splendid start to their campaign. Even in their two losses, JSU has remained competitive and had chances to win. Recent history has favored the Govs, as APSU has won the past two meetings. The Govs and Gamecocks share one common opponent this season in Kennesaw State, who both squads defeated. Claudia and twin sister Lidia Yanes Garcia are also undefeated in singles matches against Gamecock opponents in their respective careers while Ana Albertson won both her doubles and singles matches against JSU last season.

The Govs could potentially be alone in first place in the OVC if they win and have a couple of other teams lose. As of right now, Austin Peay, Murray State, and Eastern Illinois all sport a 2-0 OVC record to lead the conference.
