Jefferson City, TN – Austin Peay State University beach volleyball team extended their winning streak to three matches with a win over Carson Newman, Saturday.
The Govs swept Carson Newman in dramatic fashion, not allowing the Eagles a single set in Saturday’s final match of the Carson Newman Tournament.
Nina Korfhage and Cori Theiss opened the day with a 21-7, 21-11 victory in the Govs exhibition pairing with Carson Newman.
Chloe Stitt and Kaylee Taff continued Austin Peay’s dominant run, only giving up six points in their final set winning 21-15, 21-6 in the fifth pairing, while Ashley Slay and Theiss topped Micah Depetro and Abby Struewing 21-11, 21-12, giving the Govs their second point of the afternoon.
Haley Turner and Jenna Panning shined in the number two pairing, downing the Eagles in quick fashion 21-15, 21-6, while Brooke Moore and Caroline Waite played closer sets, but still emerged with the two-set victory, 21-18, 22-20.
At the number one pairing, Ginny Gerig and Cecily Gable topped Morgan Harlan and Kelly Hughes 21-10, 24-22 in an extended second set that sealed the Governors third-straight win in Jefferson City.
Austin Peay will have a nine-day hiatus, before returning to the court 12 p.m., Monday, April 2.
