Brentwood, TN – After a spectacular weekend at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold, a pair of Austin Peay State University track and field standouts have earned acclaim from the Ohio Valley Conference for their efforts.
Junior pole vaulter Savannah Amato has been named adidas® OVC Field Athlete of the Week, while sophomore sprinter Tymeitha Tolbert was named co-Female Track Athlete of the Week, sharing the honor with Tennessee Tech’s Micayla Rennick.
Amato took second in the pole vault at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational. Her mark of 3.85m (12-07.50) is first in the OVC and 15th in the East Region.
A Louisville native, Tolbert put together a strong weekend at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold, moving to the top of the OVC best lists in the 100m dash with an 11.90 and moving into the top-eight in the 200m with a 25.09, both personal-bests for the Louisville native; her 100m mark leaves her 72nd in the NCAA East. She also was part of a 4x100m quartet which posted a blistering 47.89 to move into first place in the OVC.
This marks the second time this year that Amato and Tolbert each took a share of the OVC’s weekly awards in the same week; the duo swept the February 21st honors. This is Tolbert’s second career weekly OVC honor, while Amato takes home her third weekly award from the conference this season and the sixth of her Austin Peay career.
