Miss Peterson is one of only a dozen interns selected from 53 applicants from across the state. The internship will be in Frankfort, but could take her across Kentucky depending upon her specific job assignment.

She will receive her work assignment in one of 12 KDA paths such as education, computer science, marketing, public relations, human resources, pre-law and other fields. “Based on my interests, I would like to work in public relations or with Kentucky Proud®, but any of the areas will be great experience,” stated Peterson.

Miss Peterson is a graduate of Muhlenberg County High School and is currently a sophomore at Hopkinsville Community College. She is studying agricultural with hopes to transfer to Murray State University to continue her education in agricultural business and marketing once she graduates from HCC in May. “In the future, I would like to have an agriculture communications position so that I could help keep the public informed about what’s happening in the agriculture industry,” explained Peterson.

Miss Peterson received an internship with Pfister Seeds last summer.

HCC Agriculture Instructor Chris Cummins stresses the importance of internships to his students. “I always encourage my students to pursue internship opportunities. An internship is a great way to gain valuable experience in the field, be exposed to new aspects of the industry and make lasting connections,” stated Instructor Cummins.

Daniel Everett received an internship with Pfister Seeds, a division of Dow AgroSciences. Mr. Everett is currently working toward an Associate of Applied Science degree in agriculture technology with plans to transfer to a 4-year college after graduation to continue his education in agriculture business or finance. During his summer internship, he will run a test plot by planting, growing and harvesting crops. He will also work closely with the company’s regional sales manager to educate farmers about Pfister Seed products and build relationships with the ag community in their service area.

“This internship will be a good opportunity to learn about different pieces of ag business,” stated Everett. “My family owns a cattle farm so I’ve been around farming all of my life. I’m also an auctioneer so the sales aspect of the internship will be something I’m familiar with,” he continued.
