Nashville Sounds blank New Orleans Baby Cakes 11-0 to open season

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds got 16 hits from the offense and five shutout innings from starter James Naile in an 11-0 rout over the New Orleans Baby Cakes on Opening Day. 

Every member of the starting lineup had at least one hit for Nashville. Dustin Fowler went 3-for-5 to lead six different Sounds players with a multi-hit game.

Mark Canha got the offense rolling when he launched a solo home run to lead off the second inning. It was one of two homers Nashville would hit on the night. Second baseman Franklin Barreto gave the Sounds a 3-0 lead in third when he drilled a two-run blast to left field.

Tennesseans urged to “Put It In Park” When It Comes To Distracted Driving

 

Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance - TDCINashville, TN – With the start of national Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April, the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI) urges Tennessee drivers to “Put It In Park” and commit to safer driving habits by putting away their smart phones, cellular devices, and any distraction that could take a driver’s attention away from the road.

While the use of technology behind the wheel is an increasingly common cause of distracted driving incidents across the country and Tennessee, distracted driving can be created by anything that diverts a driver’s attention away from the road and the inherently dangerous task of driving.

Nashville Predators win Central Division and Western Conference title with win over Washington Capitals 4-3

 

Nashville PredatorsClarksville, TN – The Nashville Predators set several franchise records tonight with a 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals. 

First, they clinched the Central Division and the regular-season Western Conference titles, their first in franchise history. 

Nashville also scored their 52nd victory of the season which breaks the old mark of 51 wins back in the 2006-2007 season.

The win, combined with a Boston Bruin loss, clinched the Presidents Trophy for the NHL team with the best record.  With one game remaining, Nashville has 115 points.

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will open its longest homestand of the season versus Southeast Missouri, noon, Friday, at Cheryl Holt Field, as the Govs return to Ohio Valley Conference play after a couple of mid-week non-conference games.

The Govs enter the matchup versus the Redhawks with a 21-10 overall record, including a 5-1 OVC mark, after edging Tennessee Chattanooga, 1-0, on the road, Wednesday, while SEMO stands at 19-11 and 3-1 in OVC play — before a single game at Southern Illinois, Thursday.

Montgomery County to unveil new Imagination Playground at Downtown Commons on April 21st

 

The CarMax Foundation and KaBOOM! Kick Off “Weeks of Play” to Celebrate Military Families.

Montgomery County Government TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – Montgomery County will host an event for military families to unveil its new Imagination Playground™ on April 21st, 2018. The community will come together to use the new creative play product at the Downtown Commons.

This celebration is one of several events happening across the country during The CarMax Foundation’s “Weeks of Play,” in partnership with KaBOOM!, to make play more accessible to kids of veterans and military families. Events are taking place during this time frame because April is the month of the military child.

APSU Women's GolfClarksville, TN – With the 2018 Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Golf Championship just around the corner, Austin Peay State University heads north to Miller Memorial Golf Course, site of this weekend’s Murray State Invitational.

A 54-hole event—weather permitting, as it rarely has for the Govs this spring—the Murray State Invitational will play at par-72 and 6,017 yards.

101st Airborne Division Headquarters prepares to Deploy, Cases Colors

 

Fort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Major General Andrew Poppas, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) commander and Command Sergant Major Todd Sims, 101st Airborne Division senior enlisted leader, cased the division headquarters’ colors, April 3rd, 2018 at McAuliffe Hall, in advance of the unit’s next “Rendezvous with Destiny,” a deployment to Afghanistan.

“The next stop for our colors once we case them is back in Bagram, where we have fought and dominated before,” said Poppas before furling the Screaming Eagle colors in front of hundreds of onlookers who attended the ritualistic ceremony. “This is nothing new for the 101st. In the 17 years of continuous combat, the 101st is the most deployed division.”
