APSU Women's TennisClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team hosts rival Murray State in a pivotal Ohio Valley Conference match, 2:00pm, Tuesday. The match is also part of the Heritage Bank Battle of the Border series between the two schools.

The Govs (10-6, 6-1 OVC) come into the match on a hot streak, winners of their last five and their last nine out of ten matches overall.

The match will also be the last at home for the Govs this season. Austin Peay also has a healthy Claudia Yanes Garcia back in the lineup.

After being injured in the first match of the season, the top-ranked player in the Preseason OVC Rankings sat out every match until the start of OVC play, where she played with her non-dominant left hand for the first three matches of conference play. However, Yanes Garcia (now back playing right-handed) has now won her last two singles matches and her last three doubles matches.

Ever since Yanes Garcia went down, her twin sister Lidia Yanes Garcia moved up to No. 1 singles and is an astonishing 15-0 in matches at the No. 1 position. Freshman Fabienne Schmidt has also won her last five matches at No. 2 singles and is 13-3 overall in singles in her first spring season as a Gov.

Junior Helena Kuppig has also had a fine season in the wake of Claudia’s injury, moving up to No. 3 singles and going 11-3 in those matches. Brittney Covington, who was honored on Senior Day Saturday, is riding a four-match win streak in singles and has an impressive 5-2 mark in OVC singles play. Ana Albertson is also playing some of her best tennis as of late, winning six of her last ten singles matches and has a three-match win streak.

If the Govs can be considered hot, the Racers (13-6, 7-0 OVC) are red hot. They boast the conference’s longest overall winning streak at nine and are tied with Eastern Kentucky for first place in the OVC with their perfect 7-0 conference record. The Govs have only won one of the past six meetings against the Racers, but the Govs won all matchups against Racer opponents in the fall at the APSU Invitational. In addition, the Yanes Garcia sisters are undefeated against Murray State in singles in their careers and Albertson is a perfect 4-0 against the Racers in singles and doubles.

The match is part of the Heritage Bank Battle of the Border series between Austin Peay and Murray State. The winner of the tennis match will contribute three points to the score of the winning school. Fans can check the overall score here
