APSU Baseball plays three-game series against Eastern Kentucky

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Due to forecast inclement weather, Austin Peay and Eastern Kentucky have agreed to modify their weekend Ohio Valley Conference series schedule.

The three-game series will now begin with a 2:00pm, Friday doubleheader at Raymond C. Hand Park. Game 3 of the series will be scheduled as field conditions warrant during the weekend.

APSU Women's Track and FieldClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University track and field hosts the annual APSU Invitational, a one-day event scheduled for a 10:00am, Friday, start at Fortera Stadium.

With inclement weather scheduled for Saturday, the traditional two-day format was altered in order to expedite a full Friday of competition.

Nashville Sounds lose in extra innings to Iowa Cubs, 6-3

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds bid for a series sweep fell short in a 6-3 loss to the Iowa Cubs in front of 8,771 fans at First Tennessee Park Thursday night.

Some late heroics by the Sounds went for naught after Anthony Garcia tied the game with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning with a two-run home run. 

With the game even at 3-3, the new pace of play rules were put into effect with both teams starting their inning with a runner at second. Both teams failed to score in the tenth, but Iowa plated three runs in the 11th to take a 6-3 lead.

Tennessee Department of Education approves New Steps to Reduce Testing

 

Tennessee Department of EducationNashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Candice McQueen announced the approval of recommendations that will reduce student testing in 2018-19.

The recommendations are the first to be released by the state’s third Task Force on Student Testing and Assessment – which includes educators, parents, and education leaders from across the state – and they resulted from months of analysis and discussion, as well as additional surveys of high school teachers and parents.

APSU SoftballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will host defending Ohio Valley Conference softball champion Jacksonville State, 3:00pm, Friday at Cheryl Holt Field for a doubleheader.

The Govs enter the matchup versus the Gamecocks with a 24-12 overall record this spring, including an 8-2 mark in OVC play, after dropping a non-conference mid-week game to Middle Tennessee on Wednesday, while Jacksonville State (21-17, 9-1 OVC) has not played since last Sunday.

With their win against Eastern Illinois in their last match, the Govs (2-15, 1-3 OVC) are assured of a spot in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament next weekend.

The Govs (10-7, 6-2 OVC) will be at least the third seed in the OVC Tournament with a win.

APSU Men’s Golf freshman Chase Korte named OVC Golfer of the Week

APSU Men's GolfBrentwood, TN – Freshman Chase Korte of the Austin Peay State University men’s golf team has been named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference co-Men’s Golfer of the Week.

Korte was the story for the Govs in the final round at the Wofford Intercollegiate; the precocious lefty shot 67, besting his previous career-low by three shots, and shot a career 54-hole best nine-under par 207 to take runner-up honors.
