The Govs (10-8, 6-3 OVC) lost their last two matches, albeit to the top two seeds in the conference tournament in Murray State and Eastern Kentucky. The Govs earned the third seed in the tournament, winning a three-way tiebreaker between Jacksonville State and Eastern Illinois, who also had 6-3 conference records.

The Govs easily handled the Skyhawks (4-13, 4-5 OVC) in their regular season matchup this year, with the Govs winning 5-2 on the road. Five Govs won in singles against UT Martin, with the most notable being the matchup at No. 1 singles between Lidia Yanes Garcia and UT Martin’s Asel Jumamukhambetova, both of whom were named in the OVC Top 10 Preseason Rankings.

Yanes Garcia won the match in straight sets (6-1, 7-5). However, the Skyhawks have won four of their last seven matches after starting 0-10. The Skyhawks also won the doubles point against the Govs back in March and have won the doubles point in five consecutive matches.

The winner of the match advances to the semifinals to play Murray State on Saturday. Stay up-to-date with how the Govs are doing by following @AustinPeayWTN on Twitter.
