Clarksville, TN – As the season goes down to the wire, Austin Peay State University track and field visits a familiar haunt when the Govs head down to the Bluff City for the Memphis Tiger Invitational, beginning with a limited run 2:00pm, Friday before turning into a full-fledged meet with a 10:00am, Saturday, start.
This meet has become a quality late-season stop for many mid-south and southeast squads.
In addition to the Govs and host Tigers, Arkansas State (11th in the South Central region courtesy USTFCCCA), Memphis (ninth in the South), Missouri State (21st in the Midwest) will join a host of other schools at the Billy J. Murphy Track and Field Complex.
Friday’s action is scheduled to be highlighted by 1500m run performers Emmaculate Kiplagat and Caroline Kiplagat; the Kenyans come in off a weekend in which Caroline nearly toppled the school 3000m steeplechase record and Emmaculate posted a career-best 5000m mark that doubled as the second-best time in school history. They’ll be just two of six Govs set to go off in the event.
A pair of talented sprinters are switching events this week; sophomore Tymeitha Tolbert, the school-record holder in the 100m dash will take on the 400m in Memphis, while precocious freshman Sabrina Richman will forego the 400m and instead run the 100 on Saturday.
Freshman Lennex Walker is scheduled for her standard in the 100m hurdles, where she will be joined freshmen Kamille Dunbar and Denia Hill-Tate and sophomore Kaitlyn Black—Black is one of two Memphis natives running in their hometown, joining Allysha Scott (100m dash) in the Bluff City.
The Governors own the top three seed marks in the pole vault, led by junior Savannah Amato (4.17m); junior Dascha Hix and freshman Morgan Bradley are right there at 3.87m, but will face a challenge from Sarah Michael (Arkansas State) and Sierra Maddox (Southeast Missour).
Redshirt freshman Maya Perry-Grimes is scheduled for both the triple jump and Friday’s long jump; she’ll be joined in the long jump by sophomore Diamond Battle, who will run the 100m dash as well after setting a personal-best with a 12.01 in the event a year ago.
