Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds fell to the New Orleans Baby Cakes 8-6 Saturday night in front of 11,089 fans at First Tennessee Park. The game featured 11 extra-base hits with nine doubles, a triple, and a home run.

New Orleans opened the scoring in the first frame as Magneuris Sierra ripped a one-out triple into the right center field gap. He came around to score on an RBI ground out from Eric Campbell.

The Baby Cakes added a pair of runs in the top of the second. Sounds starter Frankie Montas retired the first two batters of the frame before a pair of two-out walks proved costly.

Cito Culver made the Sounds pay with a two-run double over the head of Nick Martini in right field. Two more runs were plated by the Baby Cakes in the third thanks to a fielder’s choice RBI and a passed ball.

Eight batters came to the plate for Nashville in the bottom of the third inning as the Sounds trimmed the deficit. Beau Taylor laced a two-run double to deep right field to put the Sounds on the board. Slade Heathcott followed that up with an RBI double of his own and came around to score on Martini’s single passed a diving Eric Campbell at third base.

The Baby Cakes lit up the scoreboard again in the fifth inning with three more runs off Sounds reliever Kyle Finnegan.

The Sounds got one back in the sixth inning on an RBI single from BJ Boyd. It was Boyd’s team-leading 13th RBI of the season. Barreto then launched an 0-1 pitch over the left-field fence for his third home run of the season in the seventh inning. Nashville was unable to mount a rally in the final two innings and dropped the ball game 8-6.

The five-game series concludes Sunday afternoon at First Tennessee Park. Right-hander Daniel Gossett (1-0, 1.29) starts for the Sounds against right-hander Sandy Alcantara (0-0, 3.00) for the Baby Cakes. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05pm. 

Post-Game Notes

With tonight’s 8-6 loss, the Sounds dropped to 11-11 on the season.

The eight runs scored and 14 hits by the Baby Cakes were the most allowed by Sounds pitching in a game this season.

The four-run fourth inning was the fifth time this season the Sounds have scored four or more runs in an inning.

The Sounds are now 0-7 on Friday and Saturday games this season.

Sounds starter Frankie Montas struck out a season-high seven batters.

Nick Martini matched a career-high with four hits. He became the first Sounds player to collect four hits in a game this season.

Saturday’s attendance of 11,089 marked the second sellout of the season and 57th in the history of First Tennessee Park.
